Back to mapping again!

Postby Nightcrawl » Mon May 06, 2002 6:59 pm

Ho ho ho guys and gals!

As you might have noticed, I have been quite inactive here at these forums, just because of some mmorpg called "Dark Age of Camelot"... been playing it for 2 month's now, and, I feel the need of doing some mapping for Rq3 :). I've been starting on an old map project, that needs some more detail work... expect to see some screenshot's comming up in the future :)

The map I'm working on atm is a port from an Aq2 map, but the map aint famous, it was my friend who made it... it aint gonna be any flashy stuff, I'm gonna keep the map simple as the original was :)
Downtown may be finished sometime, just not right now :)

Here comes a few screens of the map that I'm working on..but there is this strange bug that can't fix?!

Here are some other screens

And, here is the original map, the Aq2 Version, it requires that you already have the textures, since that map isn't official it isn't packed with textures :/. But the textures are quite "famous", so you should have the most of them.

Uhm, if you check out the original map, it is only those 2 houses and the backyards, the other buildings aint there... in this version of the map you wont be able to get outside those walls....

Ooooh, nice. A bit small, but nice. :D

As for the light bug...hmmmm....o_O
Is it overlapped with anything, does it touch the ground properly? Just thought I'd cover those two bases quickly.

Another suggestion is to possibly stretch it back some. Usually when I do things like that, I make'em a bit long. (I can get a picture example of something I made for VOTW)

Also, full or fastvis?

It's a fast vis, and it aint overlapped with anything... could fastvis be the problem?

And ehm, yes it is small :)
But that's the thing with it, it is an "instant killing" map... maximum playtime limit on DM game is like 30 mins, if you play any longer you will get crazy :)

and yea, fastvis was the prob :) Thanks evil!

It looks functionally similar to DIRT.

hmm, maybe you are a little right about that :) But, I think it plays better, there isn't that many rooms and such things inside the buildings, and you can only enter them on the front, or if you climb that ladder to the roof and jump down on the garage and walk in that way...

Main fights are most often located on any of the backsides, the roof is a nice camping spot for a little while, sniper rifle is located at one of the roofs, and the ammo on the opposite roof.
The most effective weapon on this map is the M3 or HC. Then I'd guess the rest is equal except the sniper, unless you are a good melee sniper :)

Can't wait to give this map a test-run. :)

Then I suggest that you play the Aq2 version, since there shouldn't be any major difference in layout :)

I've been continuing with this map again, now when beta 2.0 is released. As for now it's just a few things to add to the map, and package it, then it will be ready for a beta version.

Once again, about 6 years and some 3 months later, I'm back :)

Although, today I'm mapping for the q3 mod Urban Terror.
This area seems a bit deadish to me. Anyone still alive?

!

Forums are also dead because new members can't really register. Because there are too many spambots getting through. Moving to phpBB 3.0 and using recaptcha and some other stuff is on "the list" of things to do, but it's slow going. I need to relearn mysql and figure out how to manually delete all accounts with 0 posts to clear them out once we migrate, too.

Right now I get 50+ false accounts made per day. I know this because I have the board set up to email me every time a new account is made. Either we're horrificly popular, or our bot blocking is horrificly broken!

Yeah, something like that.

Though at this point since no one seems to have web access anymore (JB, where are yooouuuu), it doesn't matter. Argh!

But yes, I get the feeling I'll have to relearn mysql a bit to gank those fake users.
