One step closer...
A big shoutout to Jopes who is helping out with getting Reaction away from using any Quake 3 art assets. He's been doing some texture replacement work on SLUDGE and I think that map's just about done, texture-wise!

The more maps with original non-Quake textures and sounds, the more maps we can make available when Reaction is released as a standalone game. If any graphically-inclined players would like to help out, drop by our IRC channel or just email me! Though I'm in a US timezone so you might want to leave a /msg if you try to get ahold of me in IRC...

Currently, our main holdups are finishing the UI and asset replacement. I think we have a good handle on the assets so right now TTI is taking on the task of learning Quake 3: Team Arena menu coding so we can finish that part of things. After that, JBravo will finish integration and customization of ioq3 as our base game.

We're hoping someone from Hermitworks Entertainment, the blokes who are featured in the "Quake 3 on the iPhone" video, get a chance to commit some of their tools and improvements to ioq3. It seems like they are a bit busy and the code is there in a public svn for use, but I don't think anyone from ioq3 would try to merge it and Hermitworks has other things on their plate right now. IF ONLY A PAST RQ3 TEAM MEMBER (Blaze) JUST HAPPENED TO WORK FOR THAT COMPANY AND HAD THE FREE TIME (Blaze) AND DESIRE TO TRY AND MERGE THE DELUXE MAPPING AND OTHER GOODIES INTO IOQ3!

Ahem.

Though I really REALLY need to come up with a plan to get the forums functional again in that we would actually approve new members and have spambot protection that, you know, worked. Because right now I get 50 new user activations per day and they are all pretty much spambots. Grrr. I'm thinking phpBB 3.0 and ReCAPTCHA but I need to play with things to make sure that we can migrate the forum theme/skin to 3.0 with minimal pain.
